Dr William Marsden
Hello, my name is William Marsden and I'm originally from County Antrim, Northern Ireland. I qualified from the University of Glasgow in 2000 and secured a place on an excellent two year post graduate training programme in Edinburgh. Here I was able to develop my skills in many aspects of dentistry, learning from some of the most experienced dentists in their field. During this time I also completed my MFDS examinations at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.
Once I finished this training I left for Cairns, Australia to seek some warmer weather, sunshine and to sample the Australian lifestyle. I lived there for 7 years working at a well renowned private practice. It was there I honed my skills as a private dentist taking the time to provide patients with quality aesthetic dentistry including tooth whitening, white fillings, porcelain inlays, crowns, bridges and implants. I have recently returned to my adopted country to be close to friends and family as I start a family of my own.
These days, dentistry can be overwhelming with a large range of treatments on offer and I feel is it an important part of my job to guide my patients through their treatment options. I strongly empathise with the nervous patient and consider it a large part of my job to reassure and sympathise with everyone I treat. Although modern dentistry is, for the majority of people, a comfortable and pain free experience I am delighted to be able to provide conscious sedation with the assistance of Christopher Greenhalgh, Consultant Anaesthetist. Chris is a very experienced hospital consultant with an excellent chairside manner and has helped many patients overcome their dental anxiety.
Conscious sedation is an extremely safe alternative to general anaesthetic and is ideal for extremely nervous patients or those undergoing difficult or lengthy procedures. People become very relaxed under this technique and have little or no recollection of events whilst sedated. We are one of the few practices in Edinburgh to provide it as a regular service and at the moment we run one sedation session a month on Saturday mornings. Please contact us for a free consultation or to find out more.
I am hoping to start further post graduate study in sedation dentistry with a Diploma at Newcastle University starting later this year. I believe that continuing professional development to be an essential part of modern dental practice. It is a pleasure to be working along side other modern, motivated and enthusiastic dentists. That way we can strive to meet our patients' needs.
Away from dentistry I enjoy squash, badminton and running to attempt to keep fit as well as socialising with friends. I also have a black belt in Choi Kwong Do but I don't intend to challenge Pritz to a fight any time soon! Ultimately, I love just being at home with my wife and new born daughter, Matilda.
